I am having a face to face with my consultant this month to discuss stem cell transplant I am 70 so I was quite surprised to be considered for this and as I have no idea what it entails I'm a bit hesitant of its success rate ,but we will see

Hi I`am post 21+ days since my stem cell transplant.I`am glad that i was offered it as a chance to enjoy hopefully a few years drug free remission.
I found the process a tad brutal, but this is me, everything was fine until the Melphalan high dose chemo kicked in that was around day 9, I experienced loss of appetite ,and bouts of stomach cramps followed by Diarrhoea . I was home after 2 weeks in hospital.I must say, i was very well looked after whilst in hospital. Its only me personally, but I will not put myself through another stem cell transplant, It sounds ungrateful , I`m not at all, but I have never felt so ill during the process.I would like to thank the NHS and in particular all the staff on ward 35 at the northern centre for cancer care, based at the Freeman hospital in Newcastle, the care received there is world class thank you.I would say to those waiting or looking at a Stem cell transplant is, go for it !! its still the gold standard for Myeloma treatment, best wishes to all those due a stem cell transplant in the near future

Hello everyone,
How are you today?
As you know, one of the treatment options for multiple myeloma is stem cell transplant, which works to replace harmful cells with stem cells that can develop into other types of blood cells. These stem cells can come from the patient him or herself (autologous) or from a donor (allogenic).
For those of you who have undergone a stem cell transplant, what was your experience like? How did you prepare for the procedure? How did it go? How are you doing now? Did you have any side effects? Has it helped your MM?
And for those preparing to undergo a stem cell transplant, do you have any questions? How are you feeling about it?
