Hi hettie and welcome,
I haven`t heard of a quarter life crisis but certainly understand what you mean. You have been in education since you were four years old, It`s been a constant in your life for quite a few years then "BANG" it`s not there, like a safety net being taken away. You are left with the realisation that there is more to the world than a globe in a classroom.
You are now in a position of having choices, you have age on your side but it is bound to be scary and stressfull full of "what ifs".
You seem pretty level headed and confident enough, you are a graduate after all but it is up to you to be confident in yourself, depression and anxiety sucks all your self confidence away but its a lie your head tells you.
Personally i`m a 46 year old single dad with a peter pan complex and never want to grow up but that comes with its own set of problems, ha ha.
Dont be afraid to share your worries, it is not a weakness
take care
phil

Even though you feel you are struggling, Hettie, you are on the brink of discovering your place in the world. An exciting, if terrifying time. Mature enough to know you are no longer a child but lacking the life experience to feel like an adult. I'm glad that this phase of life is recognised and acknowledged nowadays. I hope there are advisors and counsellors or even wise friends on hand to help you find your way.
I see you as a butterfly struggling out of its chrysalis. You can remember what it was like to be a caterpillar and are alarmed at your transformation into a butterfly, ready to fly on your own wings!
Wishing you recovery from your current anxieties and enjoyment of the future that awaits you.
Mary.

Suicidal thoughts, not coping, how to get treatment without carrying out my plans?

I take each day as it comes, try to have a focus for that day. Today is pretty good, but it gives me a nudge every now and again. H

Hi everyone. I'm new here.
I'm just wandering if any of you have heard of, or even been through, a quarter life crisis. Everyone has heard of 'the midlife crisis', but there is now apparently both increasing knowledge and stigma around young adults undergoing a 'quarter life crisis'. What are peoples thoughts around the subject? I'm pretty sure I'm having one, but don't fully understand it or know what to do about it. I can only describe it as that time in life when you finish education (University graduate last year) and have to transition into the working world. Leaving you with the horrible questions of "who am I", "What do I want to do in life" and "what are my current options". This leaves you an emotional wreck, suffering from depression and anxiety while you try to figure life out. Would be interesting to hear other peoples thoughts and experiences.
