Hi Lisa,
I opted for a modified LD flap reconstruction with fat grafting, what's not to like a new boob and slim thighs!! I didn't want to have tissue taken from my stomach as I was concerned about losing core strength and I really hated the idea of being in hospital for 5 days. In the end the surgeon used some of the latissimus dorsi muscle on my back, which did leave some loss of strength but not as much as if he'd taken the whole muscle. After the surgery had healed I went back as a day surgery case and had liposuction on my inner thighs and that was injected into the site.
I think the choice of what reconstruction you have is dependent on initial treatment, I was unsuitable for reconstruction with an implant because of the radiotherapy scars.
I can honestly say that it is the best thing I've done, I haven't regretted it . I'm delighted with the results, I've got symmetry both sides and I feel human again. The recovery time was really quick and although I do have some muscle weakness I've made sure that I've got good flexibility on that side.
Ask for a referral to a reconstructive surgeon and have a long discussion about which surgery is best for you and the pros and cons of each then decide on what you want.
Good luck xx

Hi, I am new to this site. I was diagnosed with HER 2 breast cancer in May 2015. After, lumpectomy, chemo, mastectomy, implant recon, radio and herceptin, I am now trying to improve my reconstruction. Has anyone experienced TUG Flap recon ( inner thigh?), and is happy to share their experience. I have an appointment next week with the plastic surgeon. Thanks x
