Firefighters to ease pressure on NHS by conducting health checks in people's homes

Back again Suncatcher2015, I have read the article, and cannot believe they are using the 'brand' of fire fighters to do all sorts of check ups.  They have to keep their minds clear to concentrate on their own items, fire and rescue and doing the preventive things such as smoke alarm fitting, and assessing the fire exit plans in homes.

Having watched the many american shows using the fire fighters, and they roll out ambulances from their fire houses, and many have the paramedic training, is a good thing as it goes with the rescue part, but house checking, health and benefits questions, no way what do they want to do 'become social workers'???

Will they get any extra payments for all these extra things??? they are having problems with the pension provisions and as they are in a dangerous service, they only work until about 55-ish and are still in training for may years, when would they do this extra training. I think the london mab are putting too much on to them, and this is not right.

I think so too @Karen56 - it says due to the falling number of fires, they can take on these duties, but I for one would not care to discuss my disabilities and finances with a fireman, and I am sure others will feel the same.

I agree too @Suncatcher2015, what is wrong with me is not for all and sundry to hear about.

What next, visit you on Christmas Day to make sure you are cooking the turkey or joint safely????? and then ask if they want to join you??, I would give them food on such a day, after all they have to be on duty on this day, and all other holidays, when daft things could happen and the dinner is ruined.....

I think all our emergency services do admirable work - just don't fancy discussing my personal bits with a fireman :)
