The worst side affect I've suffered was on cyclosporine for psoriasis I was on it over 20 years on and off under a dermatologist specialist and it caused me to have a brain tumour (as they put it dense calcification of the pituitary stem and hypothalamus ) not only did it give me this but also caused severe reactions to other medications ime now allergic to all antibiotics and anti inflammatories and aspirin and certain foods my psoriasis has major flare up issues and the dermatology department is refusing to see me my doctor put me on calcepoterol spray foam for my hands but didn't warn that in intense sunlight (like through a windscreen)that it was flammable and it burnt both my hands ive now been struggling waiting for an emergency appointment with a dermatologist

@magicmick Hi do you have any problems with getting medical people to believe you have an allergy to anti inflammatories and aspirin? I keep getting told it's impossible to be allergic to them.

Tramadol couldnt function at all. Dizzyness tiredness nausea. All I could do was stop taking it and stay on cocodamol. Still have to be careful. Diclofenac also made my stomach hurt. So back to cocodamol.

I've tried 9 medications for epilepsy and nearly all have given headaches, irritability, hair loss and thinning, depression and gastric problems such as cramping, heartburn and more.
I've learnt now to listen to my gut feeling and only trust one I've been on for nearly 40 years!

I've had two serious reactions one was to anti inflammatories ended up in hospital with an anaphylaxis attack. Still have trouble convincing medical staff that I'm allergic to them. The other was a TIA after taking HRT tablets I'd been on patches for years but couldn't get hold of them so tried tablets and within days I'd had a stroke. I'm now allergic to lots of medication.

I was put on statins after having 3 stents fitted, (simvastatin) after a few months on this I started experiencing some really painful cramps in my legs at night, along with in my hands, so bad that I couldn't pick up a knife and fork, there was also dizziness that would come on even if just standing still. On top of that forgetfulness, simple words when in a conversation, and worst of all my bank account log in details that I have known off by heart for years. The other amazing thing was that I was suddenly 'diabetic' (which they still refuse to take off my records, and could end up giving me inappropriate medication for in the future) I stopped taking them (statins) and slowly all the symptoms disappeared, I didn't tell the dr for around 6 months, (all he did when told of the side effects was to try to get me to take more medication) when i eventually told him he wanted me to try another, (rosovostatin) - I took two of them and the side effects were back, they went straight into the bin and I have refused to take them ever since, the trouble seems to be that even though the 'possible' side effects are all in the leaflet that comes with the statins, dr's seem to not know about them, or don't care, just pushing them for the benefit of big pharma. anyone who is interested in finding out more, there is a facebook group called " statins, the silent killer" it is very informative, and where I learnt that what I was suffering from were from the statins.

I take zomorph and oromorph, the worst is the constipation, I ha e tried macro powders, fibre gel, senna etc and nothing really helps. It adds extra problems for me as I have a hernia from a previous debaulk surgery so it's very painful all around. Also the withdrawal symptoms if I'm late taking my dose or the pharmacy are short in my prescriptions (that happens more and more just lately)

@Dizzle I'm having to take 10ml lactulose daily for my constipation but it only helps for a short while. I feel for you as epilepsy medication has messed up my system.

Hi everyone,
How are you doing today?
We take medication to relieve some of the worst disease symptoms. But that doesn't mean that the side effects are make life that much more pleasant.
What are some of the worst treatment side effects your have experienced? What was it caused by? Did you find a solution?
Let this be a safe place where you can vent about your medication and awful side effects- let it out!
Take care,
Lizzi from the Carenity team
